did I disturb you?
Not to pop your bubble or anything,
but you’ve been petrified within
your own ignorance for
far too long,
and I must interrupt.
You have ignored too much
while being comatose for an
unprecedented amount of time,
and you must awaken to the new age
of diligence focused on progression.
I know it is difficult to empathize with other people
since you have been focused on yourself
since the beginning of your existence,
but could you wake up to the new movement?
Wake up to the sounds of pain;
the thick tar of poverty choking humanity;
the dead flesh lining the coats of privileged businessmen;
the putrid stench of racism contaminating the air like L.A. smog.
Screams are echoing
against the steep mountains of injustice
to reclaim their lives,
to assert their rights,
to live a life full of ease,
but are being butchered with cleavers
lined in words of contempt
from our government based on falsified equity
and shot clean through by a bullet from
the barrel of a gun that swore to
save and protect their lives.
But, it must be nice to sleep through the night
with your privilege tucked tightly into your silken comforter
while others die along the barren streets of misfortune –
but please, do carry on immersing yourself
in tendencies to dream of an
ideal world that has been softly cushioned
to prevent any egocentric damage.
Enough is enough with this entire white lined picture.
Break through the portrait’s frame;
get up from your nap;
stop creating whitewashed phantasms;
pop the bubble;
vote with your conscience
instead of following the
commands of those
with sharpened knives that
still linger with the blood
of the last executive order they signed.
Live life as an empathizing
and always look at the man behind the curtain –
don’t just listen to the lies –
look straight into the eyes of the
lying, fear-driven oppressor.
It just might surprise you what you’ll find.
